navigation lights on aircraft.

Twenty third of December I was stood outside about 20:30 and saw an aircraft with an odd combination of navigation lights.

There were two port and starboard vertically above each other a vaugue white light roughly central. As it passed to my left quite low I saw a white top and bottom light and once it passed over to the rear were visible two large white rectangular lights with the long axis horizontal to the ground.

The weather wasnt brilliant but it was clear enough to see the above but without enough light to see the silhouette of the plane. Height had to be about two thousand feet. The engine sounded like a jet. It definitely wasn't a helicopter. From the lights the thing looked quite big and although I couldnt see much I am confident that it was one plane not two in close formation.

Any ideas ?
