Saddle blankets were expensive so they tried to keep them neat for parades
Sheepskins where used for protection against all kinds of problems you get after riding horse for a long time
Today sheepskins are still used in hospitals against problems that occur when someone has to be in bed for a long time

The picture of the Berezina is impressive.
And thanks for posting the Knotels of the Prussian Army of the Seven Years' War. I have collected some old Staddens that I have to paint of Frederick's army and those will come in very helpful.

So Cavalry carried both styles? would be told the "order of the day for usage?
