Very cool. Pity it doesnt have a playlist. Rock from this period is very cool...
My old man used to be on the atoll of Gan in the RAF in 1971. Used to talk to Saigon sometimes he said....Like you guys they remember the radio music as an integral part of their experiences...
What would be really cool would be a listing of the bands that were popular and drew GI crowds in S. Vietnam! I would help on that!
Do you actually think there were big concert crowds in Vietnam? Wow, you do have a lot to learn. You've been watching too much Coppola. Most cover bands that played in basecamp clubs and occasionally at LZs/FSBs were unknowns from Australia, Philippines, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, etc. --But, hell, we listened to 'em and liked 'em.
. . . Okay, so there was a big Vietnamese rock concert at the Saigon Zoo once - and, yes, Saigon warriors could regularly catch any number of popular Vietnamese bands at clubs in downtown Saigon - the CBC Band being the most popular. Catch these "lustful urban youth", as they are described, digging the scene --
Was there a band with a GI following in South Vietnam?
No - they weren't around long enough to develop a "following". This wasn't Woodstock in the Jungle. I recommend the following excellent documentary for a reality check --
