America Is Responsible For Georgian War

I just happened to swing by CNN and there it is - Putin is accusing America of starting the Georgian war in order to swing the election!

Couldn't get the link to copy - Windows Internet Explorer - but it's worth a look.

Why would Russia be afraid of McCain?

McCain would (rightly)conduct a tough policy towards Russia.A compliment for McCain that Putin would not want him to win.

Who would Ahmanijadid vote for?

Who would the Hezbollah vote for?

Who would Osama bin Laden vote for?

Man oh man... Can the Russians be anymore devious about this? Let's see, our hands have blood on them, but we'll just put them behind our back and tell everyone to look at someone elses hands.... sheesh!

He may actually get a war talking like that.

Putin Blames U.S. for Georgia-Russian War

http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe...war/index.html

I hadn't expected Putin to start going this anti-west nutty. I like the guy, but this is overkill on the posturing. I can only assume this is partly for home consumption.

Putin blames US for Georgia role

I believe that this is what you are referring to MM

Quote:
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has accused the US of provoking the conflict in Georgia, possibly for domestic election purposes.

Mr Putin told CNN US citizens were "in the area" during the conflict over South Ossetia and were "taking direct orders from their leaders".

He said his defence officials had told him the provocation was to benefit one of the US presidential candidates.

The White House dismissed the allegations as "not rational".

Georgia tried to retake the Russian-backed separatist region of South Ossetia this month by force after a series of clashes.

Russian forces subsequently launched a counter-attack and the conflict ended with the ejection of Georgian troops from both South Ossetia and another rebel region, Abkhazia, and an EU-brokered ceasefire.

Diplomatic wrangling

Mr Putin said in the interview: "The fact is that US citizens were indeed in the area in conflict during the hostilities.

"It should be admitted that they would do so only following direct orders from their leaders."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7586605.stm

Of all the mendacious comments that have come out of the Kremlin recently, this is the worst by and far. Of course, why did I not see that coming; the US convinced Georgia into sending its best to Iraq to participate in OIF just so it could bully around South Ossetia and Abzakhai better! Sheer genius!

See, for some reason, when I thought about possibility of this war being related to US election, the only possible explanation is that Russia wants McCain to be elected. From that point of view all Russia's recent actions make sense.

I knew McCain had a good strategist but this goes beyond all expectations. A presidential nominee forcing Russia into a war to help him get elected! It's going to be a Hollywood smash for sure...

But let's not make light of this. Putin seems to truly believe this nonsense. It makes no mention of the fact that he could have easily defused the situation by only "defending" S. Ossetia and not invading Georgia proper. He could have then asked the UN for help in resolving the conflict, painting Georgia as the sole aggressor and getting world support for the S. Ossetian people. No amount of rhetoric will change the facts on the ground.

As was said rather eloquently in another thread, Putin must be ripping his shorts in anger that no other nations are backing him on this.

Clearly there is a cultural misunderstanding here. American's are cowboys! We go wherever we want, whenever we want, and take orders from no one. Even when given orders, we usually do what we want anyway. In this world of conspiracy, if Americans wanted Georgia to get into a war - the one thing that we would do is make sure NONE of our people was anywhere near the battlefield lest they screw it all up!

I reckon this is because China and the other Asian countries refused to aknowledge South-Ossetia and Abkhazia(and it would be idiotic to assume China ever would...and some called it a brilliant move...), and while Medvedyeydeve lied they did so, Putin threw in extra smoke and mirrors to confuse the russians even more.

And the russians seem to be in nationalistic pride...thinking they are mastering the situation and have shown the west they shouldn't not be ****ed with. but in truth, all they've done is isolated themselfs.

And once the west figures how to get the energy from someplace else, Russia will fall back to anarchy. It's a shame, Putin could have taken the country in compeltely another direction.

I've been wondering if we greenlighted it from the beginning.

But I'm thinking (hoping, anyway) not, because of it being the opening night of the Olympics. That seems wrong, somehow, at least for us.

Wink Why am I not

surprised by this statement by Putin, I was just wondering when this one would come up.

Cheers, I guess, this comment from Russia is a good thing, or more of a spin as I suspect to take some of the heat off of them.......

Tom

Not very constructive regardless in my opinion.
