Exclusive to Armchair General, we present the first in a series of personal logs from Cpt. Fernando A Franco, currently serving with the 1/34 ID, The Red Bulls in Iraq.

Over the past year I have had the pleasure of corresponding with CPT Franco and have found him to be a terrific fellow.
We are fortunate that he will be providing us accounts from the front...and I would like to see us "adopt" his unit...The Red Bulls...as the "official" ACG unit in Iraq.
Once they are settled in CPT Franco will give us a mailing address which we'll make available to the ACG community. I would like to encourage ACG'ers to send letters, magainzes, snacks, and whatever you think the soldiers would appreciate. I'll be sending some ACG items like caps and T-Shirts.
So let's make the Red Bulls our own...how many magazines have their very own unit in a war zone after all??

I think adopting a unit is a cool idea - what does everyone else think?

I think it is a great idea. I sent a few letters to a Marine in Iraq last year that I mailed me as a thanks for a post card I sent to "any service member" at the Southern Baptist Covention last year. Was great to see that someone appreciated the card and we sent several letters back and forth.

We have received the following from Cpt Fernando about items the unit might require:
Quote:
I checked with the PAO, it is Ok to publish my address in the website, as follows:
FRANCO
1/34 BCT TAC
APO-AE 09391
As you can see there is not rank or my first name out of security reasons
I have asked the guys around here what kind of goodies they want, and they think that good coffee will be nice, DVDs (NOT XXX rated please), music - there are some country and classic rock lovers in my group. I personally like Jazz music.
PX here is good, therefore we do not need personal hygine stuff.
Regards,
Fernando

ACG will be sending some caps, T-shirts and magazines.
