So the guy served in Afghanistan as an enlisted soldier, came back to go to West Point, and then decided to do something stupid in a very public way - and what a fool he was, too.

I had to look it up just to confirm whether or not it had been a joke, but it seems sincere, and that pretty much puts the nail in that coffin. It may have been minor, but it was still a stupid as hell thing to do.

Quote:
Former West Point cadet in Che Guevara shirt is an Afghanistan combat veteran; and other rumors clarified

Since tweets of 2nd Lt. Spenser Rapone first swirled around the internet on Sunday, several outlets have printed rumors and speculation about his service.

To start, the former West Pointer graduated in May 2016 — when the now infamous photos were taken — and is currently in the field with 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, according to Army spokeswoman Lt. Col. Tonya Stokes.

Multiple online military news outlets have reported that Rapone is a one-time member of the 75th Ranger Regiment and was “released for standards” before receiving his appointment to the U.S. Military Academy.

Army Times has been able to confirm that Rapone enlisted as an infantryman in September 2010 and, following initial training, completed the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program.

He received his tan beret and 75th Ranger Regiment scroll in spring 2011, Stokes said, then deployed to Afghanistan that summer with 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, out of Fort Stewart, Georgia.

It was not a joke, or being stupid : it were the public convictions of an avowed Marxist who should have been dismissed from the army .

From The Daily Caller Morning :

"Rapone was reported 2 years ago for anti-American posts . "

His chain of command knew about it but did nothing .

"Lt.Col Heffington, history professor at that time, was concerned about a social media post from Rapone from 11/16/2015,which was " FXck this country and its false freedom " .

In a sworn statement, (published by The Daily Caller ) Huffington said :"it appears from his various online rantings and statements that he is an avowed Marxist...." "His posts indicate that he hates West Point, the US Army and indeed this country " .

My question : Why has the chain of command of West Point done nothing with this sworn statement ?

Is it not time that heads will roll ?

How did someone who was "released for standards" get an appointment to West Point?

I imagine a mix of bureaucracy and his record as a veteran, though we'd need someone more familiar with the whole process to really offer competent analysis.

Not really....shoot him first. Then get back to the mission at hand. I have a feeling that any number of wars include cowardly or otherwise worthless officers who were 'killed in action while bravely confronting the enemy'.

That's why they invented the term fragging. After all, America is fond of its extrajudicial killings.

I doubt it's just America. Though we would have it since a lot of our ancestors were kicked out of every civilized country on earth.

Fragging has been there since the first jack@ss noble decided to send soldiers off to die on something retarded, and made the critical error of not being in the company of all the other nobles when he told them to do it....."Surprise attack my @ss"

If you as an employee embarrass or buck the owner / management, they can fire your sorry behind for not doing what's in the best interests of the company and it's owners writing your paycheck.
I was bringing up the fact that individual units in the US military did not mind their team members supporting CSA flags and Catholic symbols. If these images did not exist I would not be posting itt pointing out the unrighteous view that its ok to have CSA symbols and Catholic symbols but not Communist symbols being worn by individuals or Tanks in the US military. The Catholic Symbols are one thing they belong in the US military..but if anything the CSA flags should be the controversy.

Communists helped the USA during WW2 greatly, where as the CSA folks rebelled against the USA bringing about the civil war. The only thing that can be done to address the issue is if the US military outright banned the types of CSA and Catholic symbols that individual soldiers have worn over the years...I dont think this will happen do you? I get that some Americans admire the CSA as they had ancestors fight for the CSA...Well in the 1940s American Catholics and Soviet Communists were friends and fought united against the Axis powers.

In the Iraq war in 2003 one could see American servicemen wearing Catholic symbols its something I and many others would admire. Therefore considering how Catholics helped America to win WW2, Catholic symbols ought to be allowed in the US military and the same could be said for Communist symbols.
