I've tried find the spot in Saigon where he was killed but have had no success to date. We're going back in March of next year. If you could give me directions I'd be willing to go there and check it out.

He wasn't a regular military general, he was Chief of the National Police who liked to lead from the front, so he got into a lot of close quarters fighting in the cities. I'm pretty sure he got hit in the leg during one of the follow up 'mini Tets' in 1968 (his life was saved by an Australian journalist & he was sent to Australia for treatment). During his long recuperation the Ky-led faction he was a part of was virtually wiped out when a US helicopter gunship acting on a tip off about a supposed VC meeting shot up a meeting a number of its senior members. Others were arrested or sacked.

By the time Loan was back on his feet he had lost his job & the business had moved elsewhere.

This might help.

I found it a few years ago. Not very memorable, though if you wander in to where the pagoda is you can see why it was so hard to fight there. Compete rabbit warren.

Here you go. The address is 197 Ngô Gia Tự Str. Photos by Paul Blizard. I went there last year and the details all matched.

I still can't get over the pizza business; I guess it isn't much different from a Mexican tossing them. A pho and monkey ball soap shop would have been the better option.

No, it is not. Lư Thái Tổ is farther north. The Ấn Quang pagoda is halfway between the Lư Thái Tổ and Ngô Gia Tự streets.
