They opted not to the F-14 back in the 1970s as well as the Super Hornet a decision that some feel was a mistake.

the USMC budget must be minuscule compared to the Navy's
so they have to buy carefully
the USMC is more of a land force....with air to support it

I hope the Marines look at the S-97 Raider and the V-280 because you can only upgrade the Hueys and the Cobra to a point.

I've heard some rumors that the Sea Stallion and the Chinook might be replaced by a quad tilt-rotor craft.

The CH-47 Chinooks are still in service with the U.S. Army. Have the Marines given any thought to buying the Advanced Hornet?

The CH 47 in the inventory today is much changed from the design that saw service in Vietnam. It is large and has lots of room to install new equipment. I know it has different engines. The Marines don't really fly off of carriers any more so they may prefer a F 35 to a Super Hornet. They do fly Harriers off Helicopter Carriers.

If the Navy added more Carriers and allowed several Marine Squadrons to be assigned to them, I would not mind seeing them get Super Hornets.

If you have more current information, please share. There are only so many slots in a carrier air wing and the Navy likes using Naval Air on them. I was under the impression that Marine Air was usually stationed on the older, smaller carriers in the past. Marine Hornets can fly off carriers, indeed the Super Hornets form the dedicated Fighter Squadrons ever since they retired the old Tomcat.

I've been searching and can't find anything solid....I'm guessing they are not regularly stationed on the carriers, but at times they are....?

Marines still fly from carriers. At least for squadrons 2 east coast and 2 west coast.
