Not neccessarily.
Many swim at Brighton Beach throughout the year with no ill-effects whatever. (As I have).
It's a mystery.

So Australia has no spectacular wildlife? And as for Brighton beach. I would rather swim where that bloke in the article swam.

Divers in that bay know of those creatures, the trick is to keep moving in the water so they don't nibble too much. In any case, what this boy has experienced is probably the worst anyone has seen.

Australia doesn't really have any dangerous animals. Sure there are some that cull the stupid people, but for the average person, our wildlife is very safe.

I cannot altogether agree with the above. Australia possesses some quite lethal wildlife, especially in the north. Snakes, Salt Water Crocodiles, Stone Fish, Jelly Fish etc. But fortunately it's generally a case of live-and-let-live, don't bother the local fauna and they won't bother you.
But the Brighton Beach incident is a total mystery. It appears not to have happened subsequently.

What almost finished me was a pack of feral dogs. Was like something out of a horror movie.

Snakes and spiders are very rarely dangerous. They are not generally aggressive and their venom is typically slow acting enough that you have sufficient time to get medical attention.

Crocodiles are harmless. If you swim in a river above Brisbane expect to get eaten, so don't do that. Saying they are dangerous is like complaining it is dangerous to walk across a major road with your eyes closed. Keep out of their water and away from their water and you have nothing to fear.

Sharks here are no worse than in South Africa and California. If you swim in the ocean in an area where the crocodiles haven't eaten the sharks then don't cry over missing limbs.

Goannas are reputably only a problem if you are standing up so no real worries there.

Admittedly magpies are a bit nasty but that is why we put spikes on our bicycle helmets (soft spikes of course as we don't want to hurt them).

Kangaroos and wombats do attack people, but are no worse than deer.

Unlike the US and many other places we don't have bears or mountain lions etc that may attack you when you step out of your door to walk to our car or take your rubbish bins out.

Our wildlife really is quite safe,
