A few nights back, while shutting of PC for the night, got a "turn off with updates" message and didn't look close enough. Next morning start-up should everything had been deleted.

Tried a recovery and restore program via "EaseUS" but that doesn't seem to have worked. Had my IT guy here yesterday and no good results, no chance to restore. He thinks we may have snagged a virus.

Real pain to have to rebuild bookmarks and redo passwords, etc.; not to mention the lost files. Will be getting a back-up system soon to make current archiving in the future.

Meanwhile, any suggestions out there on other options to try for recover and restore???

This article is seven years old but it's still useful . You'll need a lot of patience or an IT guy to do it . https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/3180...ur-windows-pc/

Scroll down to, "Recover Data (Like a Forensics Expert) ", and begin .

A suggestion as to how to back-up your system . With Clonezilla you copy the whole system, operating system, files, drivers, the whole lot . If you have a home based computer you could use it to backup once a month . More often if you have more files . All you need is a terabyte plus size drive to backup to . http://www.clonezilla.org/
