Iran has had to spend blood and Treasure to archive its aims, while Israel has just sat back and watched her enemies turn on each other.

I agree the Iranian position has improved but the scale of their ambitions is now revealed and will draw a counter response from regional rivals in Saudi and Turkey. Iran could soon find itself in a war it will struggle to pay for.

As the sotto voce part of the Ankara-Riyad-Tel Aviv axis; skin in the game but at one remove from the cultural / religions angle.

Oh absolutely, but it's a cost that could be worth it, considering how their influence has expanded. The Great Satan spent even more money and lives removing their biggest threat - now the conflict is not on their border, but in proxy wars and distant Arab nations.

But yeah, I'd say Israel is the bigger winner between the two.

This is an old geopolitical / religious war; not sure why anyone should be surprised by its unfolding.

If I were of a Machiavellian bent, I would recommend that Europe capitalise on this as Israeli currently is.

In fact what we have is Europe, in the guise of the EU, making moral arguments for why we should actively bring the conflict and spillover into the heart of Europe.
