Were many Portuguese fighting the civil war of Spain in favor of Franco, but I do not know anyone could have met someone when I was a child and not know, and civil war in Spain have already passed more than 80 years, if they were alive they had to have more Of 100 years I do not say that there are not but there may be still Portuguese alive in fighting the civil war of spain but they must be very few, more than 99% already died

The most likely source for Portuguese volunteers would have been the National Syndicalists - a Fascist Falange Party (the light blue shirts). However this was strongly resisted by the Salazar regime and then wiped out in the 1936 election.

A long time ago I was in epistular contact with an Italian Republican veteran. But it was a long time ago and he was pretty old back then.

There are nine veterans (six Republican and three Nationalist) still alive and all but one were Spanish.

The youngest is Eduardo Vivancos who is 96 and served in the 26th Division in the Second Spanish Republic. He currently resides in Canada.

The oldest is Francisco Núñez Olivera who is 112. He is also the last surviving veteran of the Rif War and oldest man living in Europe today.

Delmer Berg was the last American veteran who died last year.

There are only two veterans from the International Brigade still alive. Virgilio Fernandez del Real and Karel Dufek. Dufek was from Czechoslovakia.
