The Order

With the sudden rush to war, the armed forces of the Order are well out of-

Quote:
Gibraltar- A class 7 means a million, or millions. No, nobody has ever stood up to a horde like that.
Ah.

With most of our assets away from Gib, we will recall the Viking and the Star of India from the Channel area - though Knight-Captain Palmer will act as a military observer as well as a local ambassador if we require an advocate.

With Gibraltar under threat, we will adopt a three tier response.

1. Explore

Both aircraft based at Gibraltar will scout the African coast opposite Gibraltar. How is Ceuta looking? Can we find a secure (or securable) area there or along the African coast nearby that we could evacuate Gibraltar's occupants to until the threat passes? How is Cadiz?

We concentrate all smallcraft in the western Med in Gibraltar's harbour for an evac if this is required. Intensive fishing close to the harbour to help keep us fed while we avoid feeding the dead. I will transfer my flag to Gibraltar while we resolve this; I stand with my people.

Can we see/secure the ferry at Algeciras?

If Ceuta looks thin or clear, we divert eighty men to sweep Ceuta east of the Foso de San Felipe and to fortify both bridges (and prime them to collapse if need be).

2. Divert

Sefarad races to engage the class 7 at La Cala de Mijas, using sound and low-altitude flight to bait the vanguard into the ocean. Ideally the mindless dead will follow their instincts and feed the sharks.

If this doesn't succeed or succeeds incompletely, the airship will mute, lift off to higher altitude and then engage the horde's inland flank when it reaches Marbella. Less finally but a better chance at diverting them all inland up the El Madronal road to Ronda. Once the lead elements reach Ronda, the valley isn't wide enough for them to turn back and the Brownian motion should ensure they miss Gibraltar.

In theory.

3. Protect

With the fences and walls repaired over the previous week, we maintain a light perimeter aiming to eliminate any stray zed using spears or other long melee weapons (no shots except as a last resort).

The other 200 men in the area take up positions directly behind the runway with the support weapons (including the blackpowder one). If it comes down to a firefight we aren't fighting the living. We don't assume we can break the Class 7's morale, so we stack plenty of ammunition there and ensure every position has bicycles or personal vehicles to allow a rapid withdrawal to the harbor.

If we're unable to divert the Class 7 at Marbella or earlier and over 20K are still closing on the town we immediately begin evacuating the people of the town to the closest safe location - Ceuta for preference, but anything defensible and close by. The aircraft fuel up and retire to Cap Ferrat.

If we need to, we pull every living creature out of Gibraltar including the final (rapid) military retreat to the harbour. Without the distraction of living people there, Sefarad should be able to lure the remains of the Class 7 up along the road until Gibraltar is clear and safe to re-occupy.

Sefarad is to be careful at all times about where they lure Zed.

Sorry again, I cam back to a real mess at home, not the least of which was finding out that the IRS keeps kicking back my forms.

Tonight or tomorrow AM at the latest I will have results for you.

3) Getting the airfield, by dawn if possible. If we can get to the airfield during the hours of darkness, we might have that shot to sweep it before they make any moves to counter our landings. It's also possible that they've pulled a lot of their troops to counter Pruitt's Landings. Hence my landings going straight in with the mission to get to the airfield. We're hitting a beach that's not ideal for large scale operations, and we're pushing through suburbia, definitely not quite as fast as doing across open country with the armor and mech infantry.....which if we had the right shipping we could pull off. But with surprise and my troops level of experience, I'm banking on a quick foot advance at night to get to that airfield and take it before they have time to fully mobilize against my landings.
I can't find that car park under that name, but overall-

The landings weren't so easy, only the first unit landed was able to get into some serious action before daylight, but it was more than enough!
The resistance was barely noticeable until you reached the airport, some sniper fire from the St. Aubin flank that was easy to evade just by putting some cover between you and them, and a couple of Jokers with SMGs over by St Brelade that were dead before they could re-load.
At Les Orme's Resort your men ran into trouble, that Seymor Tower had close to a squad in or near it and they fought to the death. Inside you found out that they had a score of captives/slaves in there that they killed as soon as they saw you coming.
Booty; 4 x Berretta SMGs, 5 x SKS rifles.
Cost; 6 dead and 13 wounded.

Whoever was in the Airport must have taken off when they heard the shooting, it is deserted and their one remaining plane (a Helldiver) is left on the jacks, awaiting new tires.

However, it is barely dawn when things start to unravel.
A 105mm howitzer (your men know the sound, its just like your own) sends a few shells into the beaches as the 2nd wave finally gets sorted out and pushes inland. When you boats raided the harbor, the 105 switched fire to them, as did a 20mm gun sited on a jetty at St. Helier.

Pruitt has reason to be happy with you; a tank-raid was developing on his front when you landed, and they pulled back before things could get serious there. By 6am, some of them have reached you. Two Mark III were first to arrive and your 37mm was not in position to take them on. One of them was taken out by a man with a Molotov when it passed to close to the ditch he was hiding in, but then morale broke and your men had to pull back from the airport itself. A JS-3 arrived, covered by the remaining Mark III. This is something your men simply are not equipped to deal with.
Enemy infantry are doing their best to stay out of sight, the equivalent of intense sniper fire is the best they can offer even after it is full daylight.

You have all of the land from the Beaches to the airport under control, and the enemy are not pushing you past the open ground on the airport grounds.

Amazing, the part surrounded by ocean appears very well kept. Both bridges have been blown and the sandbar is covered with charred corpses. There is a set of huge parabolic dishes lined with mirrors facing that approach.
However, no radio contact can be established.

yes, there are few Z's there and the facilities are intact.
however, there is not a single boat.

Bad news; lots and lots of dead people there, most are moving. And the worst part is the black flags flying from high places.
Plague.

Thousands fall for it, but it hardly makes a dent. Most of the Z's learn to ignore the noise as it never leads to food.

Marbella has already been out-flanked. A cool front has moved in from the Northeast, an unusual thing, but it happens. As if sensing their doom, Z's have been moving down out of the high country to the warmer coast. This is what formed this horde, and the process is accelerating. They will never freeze here, but they will be slowed down.

Perhaps there are bridges that could be blown.

It is 120km by road from Gib to Cadiz.
There are 270 bicycles, 180 mopeds, 60 motorcycles, 27 cars and 4 Busses that remain serviceable in and around Gibraltar and Algericas.

The Z's are, of course, not going to hit any particular point at the same time. The head and the tail of the mob are a 2 day walk away from each other.
