Even the mainstream media hinting at a "rigged selection".
The jury is way off the scale according to the polls.
The Russian performer should have won according to public opinion.

Nah, it's an aretfact of the voting system. Half the points come from national five-person juries (artists and music industry types), and half comes from Europe-wide televoting by the TV audience.

As it happened Australia won the jury vote, while Russia won the televoting — just, slightly ahead of Ukraine.

Ukraine was nr 2 in both categories, and so it won on getting the more even score. It's entirely possible people just liked the Ukranian contribution. Just like they apparently did with the Russian contribution.

So far the Aussies don't seem to feel robbed though.

And truth be told, it's bleedin' obvious that the Ukranian contribution was carefully crafted to frame a story that — while in a sense safely "historical" — under present geopolitical circumstances in both Ukraine and Russia cannot be but politically interpreted in both places.

Question is how much the televoters of Europe, or the juries for that matter, around Europe really got about that specific bit of Russo-Ukranian shared history?

Considering Russians have a tendency of chewing the rest of Europe out for knowing bugger all about Russia, it would be weird if somehow it is not to be automatically assumed in Russia that, yup, the darn Europeans somehow knew EXACTLY what all THAT was about...

Oh come on, the thing is politicised to the extreme. Somehow we are supposed to feel bad about nomadic conquerors who wiped out the original inhabitants and laid waste to most of Eastern Europe, then continued to rampage through that part of the world for the next several centuries doing their favourite "work": murder, pillaging and slavery. The numbers involved are horrible. To top it all, when the Nazis and satellites came during their genocidal campaign, they joined in.

Of course, the song is aimed at ignorant and foolish people who have no idea of Eastern European history, and who might fall for this "persecuted authentic aboriginal Crimean Tatar" nonsense. Yeah the song was "historical", "1944",
thats why she mentioned "2014" and connected it, and, of course, called for "peace and love". I would like to give it to her, just like her ancestors dealt it around.

You people simply don't have any idea what does it mean to be under Ottoman or Muslim nomad rule for several centuries. Is it devshirm or slavery, ethnic cleansing or destruction of towns and churches.

The whole Eurosong is a festival of bad music, political games and ultraliberal propaganda. To top it all, the winning song is in breach of supposed rules: it's not a new song. But the best part was the Serbian delegation's uneasy explanation why they gave maximum 12 points to Ukraine. Yeah, "soft power" at work, folks. The song was REALLY good and REALLY deserved all those public and delegation votes.

No lyrics should have political content or inference: they should all be banal like the rest of the offerings.

A new program on Ukrainian history is approved for high schools in Ukraine. The pupils are supposed to study Ukrainian victory in the Eurovision song contest of 2005 and 2016 as one of the key events of the modern Ukrainian history.

Well at least this helps illustrate that stupid educational programs aren't limited to the United States.
