TIA.

None of this is going to change anytime soon, and I have no interest in sending my money or children to a place that can't look after its own basic needs

Burundi needs help, not platatudes and promises.

If the UN won't, the the Union should. Who wants another Uganda/Rwanda/biafra/Congo....the list always gets bigger.

Ethiopia seems to be having a go at doing something to modernise, and no excuses from them. The nub of their problem is lack of willing investors, who will give all the educated Ethipians a chance. The Chinese are going to economically control Africa due to this mass indifference from Africans themselves.

Australia is already asking questions about Chinese investment. Africa should be vigilant as well.

You should if they the host nastion. No peacekeeping mission succeds with out there support.

Sure but peacekeepers wont solve this. Either diplomacy must convince Burundi to acceptanc them or it will need to be a full on military invasion.

Listing and talking is our south africa did not collapse in to civil war. It is our we prevent a Burundi genocide stoped a Lesotho civil war. Talking is better than shooting.

Neither the AU or UN can force a nation to accept peace keepers. Even sudan whos president is want by the ICC for war crimes agreeded to the UN mission.

Ethiopia needs FDI. China provids it. By the way South Africa is the third largest source of FDI in Africa.

China wants resources from Africa. We know that we know what they want they know what we want. They building up a lot of transportation infustructer, mining and security all to secure these resources. This is not a bad thing. All so they dont ask questions or have rules. They far easier to work with than the west. They need resources they will provide cash or development. We know they have no love for us we dont love them either.

Good points Mr andrew, but all talking does is delay the issue, while people without guns and money pay with their lives.

I'm not advocating anything but intervening to prevent this. If this means we have to knock off people with guns opposing this move, then thats a good thing. IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE, you'll stand back and let the Peacekeepers do the job.

The fact that all the "umming and arring" is going on at all is indicative that there IS "something to hide".

Stop talking Africa. ACT NOW. Powerless Burundians are caught in the middle. THEY pay the price while you idiots posture and preen about "appropriate" action.

I say again, Africans can't run their own continent.

The President of burundi, the recently "re-elected" PIERRE INKURUNZIZA, has today approved 100 UN "military Observers", and another 100 "Humanitarian Observers", after a 2 day visit by 5 African nation representatives, including the also recently "re-elected" President of Uganda YEORI MOSEVENI.

Mr. Ikururnziza was responding to outside pressure to open up the country of Burundi to outside scrutiny, after brushing aside UN calls for a 5,000 man peacekeeping force.

Obviously, Inkurunziza is a man with something to hide.
