Dracoco has a little shameless behaviour in the past [-1 to -99]
TAG first clamed that German fuzes failed by far most of the time, now they explode underwater (entering at supersonic speed downward, the splinters manage to fly backwards & out of the water & so high & fast as to cause damage on the superstructure). Some splinters.

German fuzes on their AP heavy naval gun rounds did generally fail. What's that got to do with their 15cm gun, or with using common rounds? Aside from that I gave three sources showing that ships get splinter damage for near misses all the time be it shells or bombs.
You on the other hand offer drivel in response.

Perhaps the Clown's approach is the right one.

Make things up as you go along, and don't bother checking troublesome things like facts.

I really do not know where this is going.

Are you now saying that HMS Achilles did not suffer splinter damage after all, or are you simply posting nonsense as a matter of principle?

I would assume that he thinks it got hit, as their is no way shell's can leave fragments on hitting the water and exploding, actually water is not hard enough to make a shell explode, and even if it did the fragments can not pass through the water...

The only problem with that is the fact that, although Achilles was definitely, categorically, not the recipient of a direct hit, she certainly did suffer some minor splinter damage to her hull, her DCT, and her bridge. Four men were killed, and her captain was wounded in both legs.

The following is an extract from an interview with a member of Achilles' crew, Bob Harvey, recorded by the interviewer, Jim Sullivan:-

JS: So there wasn't a time then when the Achilles itself was hit or under heavy fire?

BH: Well, she wasn't hit but you can be hit or - we had an 11-inch explode close to the bridge - and by the way that was very close to where we were in B Turret, but the splinters from this explosion, the shrapnel went up through the bridge and through into the director [control] tower - killed a couple of guys in the director, very seriously wounded a couple and wounded the captain on the bridge, the chief yeoman of signals who lost a leg owing to that later on. This shrapnel can do vicious damage, its jagged metal exploding at the force of any bullet - and its large metal, all different size pieces. Ghastly stuff really.

There is also a photo. of the damage to the DCT in the Imperial War Museum collection, Reference HU203.
