GCHQ - Stop using complex passwords!

From the Belfast Telegraph

UK spying agency GCHQ, found to have been conducting wholesale surveillance on UK citizens, has recommended that the public make their passwords less complex.

Saw an item recently that suggested that password selection tends to be gender driven so for example the most frequently used password used by women is password!

This sort of thing is nothing new. Once heard a talk by an ex SOE type who had been a safe cracker used to open German safes in occupied France, copy the documents and close the safe up again, apparently over 80% of the combinations used were the German officer's birthday, his wife's birthday or Hitler's birthday (some had been really cunning and used the date backwards!)

"In an attempt to make it easier to conduct their operations..."

They must be joking. Was this launched on April 1st?

Why in th hell anybody should 'make it easier' for them, is beyond my troubled thoughts.

This IS a joke...right? It's got to be.
