Excellent site. Maybe it's time for a all things Navy stickie thread.

Here's another one that you'll get lost in:

Naval History Net is by far the best and most comprehensive website about the RN.

For those interested in the convoys many of these ships were escorting and protecting then you cant go far wrong with this website:-
http://www.convoyweb.org.uk/index.html

and then if you add in the fantastic UBoat Net, then your pretty much sorted on the Battle of the Atlantic
http://uboat.net/index.html

Hi Randy

Has this fabled salute ever been verified?

The Johnston certainly put up a brave defence of Taffy3, but from memory the 'salute' from the Japanese 'Captain' has never been confirmed and is based on the sole testimony of a single survivor!

Regards

I don't recall ever seeing that this 'fabled salute" has been verified. Everything I have read only ever attributed this to "a Johnston survivor". It is never cited and a name is name attributed to this. I have also seen this salute attributed to the crew of the Japanese destroyer or to an unidentified officer.

Great Link! - And I'll probably spend ages and ages exploring it.

But can anyone tell me why Ian Beale, from our beloved "Eastenders" Soap Opera, is handling the Boxfiles in the first righthand pane - Perhaps this is what he does in between filming episodes!!!!
