Sorry if I confused anyone. The above list is made up of the units I served in while in the MOARNG. Heck at times we had more then twice as many engineers as I've listed.

More, that I did not serve in

110th En Bn
203rd En Bn
135th En Grp
880th En Bn
220th En Co
1141st Eng Co.

And thanks to the lot of them for the help during the Great Flood of '08. The Meramec is a mile from my house, but I could see the flood waters from my front porch. And my back porch.

You must be in my area. Saint Louis County Near Fenton, I drive though Valley Park and across the Meramec every day. I missed the 08 flood. I peaked in the 93 flood. 6 weeks of flood duty up north.

Exit 257 on I-44. My first full year here and I have a bag packed for Mom and the cat carriers ready to load. (I started feeding the cats in the carriers so they'd associate opening the doors with chow time.)

I served with Major Clyde Vaughn, an Engineer officer from the Missouri National Guard, in Panama in 1986-88, and ran into him there again in the late 1990s when I returned as a civilian. He was the heart and soul of the US Army engineering exercises run throughout Latin America in those periods. These exercises involved bring an Engineer task forces' worth of equipment into the the target countries and then rotating National Guard and Reserve Engineer and associated units though on two week rotations until the job was done.

Small wonder that Clyde went on to greater things. He was the epitome of a no BS, low-key, 'get er done' engineer from the Show Me state.

Many years ago the Army decided it did not 'need' a bunch of understrength Infantry Divisions. So many were disbanded and the Infantry Regiments converted to other roles. Once Missouri had two Infantry Regiments, 138th and 140th. They were converted to Engineer units. That is why some states got so many Engineer units.

Louisiana once had the 199th Infantry Regiment before World War II but it was converted to something else. They did manage to keep the 156th Infantry Regiment alive. The Louisiana Regiments were part of the 39th InfDiv but that division was not activated. The humorous part is the Aviation Company attached to it was eventually converted to Helicopters and is still in service in Arkansas. With all the Aviation industry in Louisiana we only recently got our own Helicopter Battalion.

Yes. When I was in the Army, we were reminded that no matter what our MOS is. We are all INFANTRY. We were all trained to fight. Even I was not trained at Ft Banning, but our spirit and mind always reminds us about the mud at Banning. Our cadence always refers to Banning and Bragg.

The unit crest for the 1138th En Bn displayed its Infantry roots. Infantry Blue Shield with an image of a Statue of King Louis. When you viewed all the En Crest in the Rgt Museum on Ft Wood it was about the only Infantry Blue on any of the walls.
