My forum namesake on this day

For those who don't know what my forum name is associated with, it's associated most readily with the US operation on this day, October 3rd, 1993 in Mogadishu, Somalia. The book and movie "Black Hawk Down" offer a gripping look into the operation, that will leave you fascinated but also sad. Anyways, more on topic, "Super Six 4" was the callsign of Mike Durant's Black Hawk helicopter, that was one of two downed by RPGs. Durant, however survived, while Cliff "Elvis" Wollcott was killed.

If you haven't, I urge you to read the book/see the movie-I've read the book and seen some of the movie. If you have seen/read both-do it again.

Cool
I watched the movie and played the game "Delta Force Black Hawk Down" and its expansion.(which was fun but also a bit hard at times)
It also has a great soundtrack

The Unified Task Force (UNITAF) came ashore on the beaches of Mogadishu without opposition on 9 December 1992. Prior to that you had:

On 24 April 1992, the Security Council adopted resolution 751(1992), establishing UNOSOM I. The Council asked the Secretary-General to deploy immediately 50 unarmed but uniformed United Nations military observers and to continue consultations with the parties in Mogadishu. These consultations took nearly two months. On 23 June, the Secretary-General informed the Security Council that both principal factions in Mogadishu had agreed to the deployment of the unarmed observers. The observers, from Austria, Bangladesh, Czechoslovakia, Egypt, Fiji, Finland, Indonesia, Jordan, Morocco and Zimbabwe, served under Chief Military Observer Brigadier-General Imtiaz Shaheen of Pakistan.

Yeah and there were Marines in Mog, but they were pulled out except at the Embassy, which was attacked-luckily a SEAL team was able to hold them off until the people inside could get out by helicopter.

The UN was giving away food to the warlords.... I recall Bangladesh blue helmets making a big mess out of food distribution.

IIRC the movie was pretty faithful to the book, but you are right of course anyways.
