What? No one is going to contradict us here? No one is going to defend Iran and their new fighter? What's the fun in that?

Why? Because it will actually fly reliably and perform with some sort of consistency in air-to-air operations?

Actually, Iranian Air Force fought with elan and capability during the war with Iraq. It was US trained and well equip branch, and it was combat capable despite the purges.

Most of that capacity simply faded away during the years due to maintenance issues, technological advances and age of pilots. Even if they still have capable pilots and maneuverable planes, without good radars and missiles they are good to nothing.

Iranians have worked hard on producing domestic trainer/light CAS/fighter,and they have a limited capability to do so. Given the size, this might be part of that effort.

Iran should be displaying the latest suicide bomber vests.

Because of suicide bombings, the US military and public ultimately lost interest in occupying Afghanistan and Iraq. In that sense, suicide bomber tactics have been effective in discouraging the US presence there.

Iran's air force would be blown out of the sky very quickly as its main strength is based on 1950s technology (F-4 and F-5 fighters) with some indigenous upgrades bolted on.

No, we got out of there because OBL was dead and AQ didn't operate there anymore. They'd make lousy colonies.

I am still waiting for the Cobra Rattler, and Night Raven to be released in a few months and years, now those will be worth waiting for...COBRAaaaaaaaa!!!

Don't compare Cobra to Iran. That's insulting Cobra and their hard-working, union members.

For the instrument panel it looks like they went to Radio Shack to the car stereo section and purchased a few car radios. Nothing wrong with that, those stereos can be very expensive and when you leave the plane parked you can take the stereo with you so nobody breaks into the cockpit.

Well, it's bad, but not quite that bad. I recognize some of those stereo-looking components as common Garmin stuff (good stuff if you want to upgrade your 40 year old Cessna!). Here's a good high-res shot of the cockpit:

http://i47.tinypic.com/24zxgsw.jpg

The second item from the top, in the center stack, appears to be a Garmin SL-30 Nav/Com radio. See: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/alt-imag...ductImageLarge

The one on the left, below the small screen on the left but above the red Landing Gear handle, appears to be a Garmin GMA-340 Audio Panel. See: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/alt-imag...ductImageLarge

The one below the lower big screen (center stack) but above the panel with three knobs appears to be a Garmin GTX-330 Transponder controller. See: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/alt-imag...eLarge&ra=true

I'm not sure about the other avionics in there.

My FAVORITE part is the airspeed indicator with a ~260 knot red line. If that were in fact correct, the airplane would have to climb above 48000 feet just to be able to break Mach 1 without exceeding 260 indicated... quite laughable. Also, the 'bottom' of the White and Green arc portions indicate stall speeds in certain configurations... a ~70 Knot stall speed in a modern fighter? I didn't think so.

PitchRate, care to comment?

Edit: Upon further review I see PitchRate already pointed out the 260 knot redline on the airspeed indicator. Thank you!

Just curious, are they claiming the top photo as authentic or did they simply release the picture through the media?
