Stan, the curator of Michigan's Own suffered a stroke that left him partially paralyzed last Sunday. A visitor found him on the floor in the office and called 911. As the only person other then his wife that has operated this museum ever since it has opened, this is his lifelong passion, there is currently no one available to open it at this time.

As we all pray for a speedy recovery, the board and Friends of the Museum are now forced to face the reality of finding someone that can run the museum to continue its mission dedicated to honoring Michigan veterans. I live too far away to take on that task even though I have considerable knowledge of the collection. I have spent considerable time in inventorying the collection, a job now made more frustrating, because so much of the details of what belongs where is still in Stan's mind.

The search is on to find someone dedicated to continuing this passion dedicated to Michigan veterans to take on much of the work that Stan has done in the past.

We have hired a collage student to conduct tours until mid August and should be reopened Saturday.

While Stan is going to be out of the picture for quite a while, the museum is open for business thanks to the temp help and volunteers of the Friends of the Museum.

Just an update of what is going on at the museum.

The board has hired a laid off businessman for director. He has taken over organizing things and implementing new ideas to improve visitor count. Stans brother, Jon, has been making the 3 hour round trip to work with displays. We continue to find out about missing displays from 28 years ago. I am still looking for one donation that was claimed to be brought in by a friend a month ago. We are wondering if that person is pulling our leg since we have looked everywhere for something out of place.

Stan is now in stroke rehabilitation. While his memory appears to be intact, his body still remains paralyzed on one side.
