'Confederates in the Attic'...
I've just started a book called 'Confederates in the Attic'. It's very funny and a tad disturbing in places. Would appear that re-enactors your side of the pond are every bit as barmy as the ones we have in Blighty!

It has been a while since I read it, but it is a good read. A different kind of book - in a good way.
Yes, some guys over here probably take it more serious then their real jobs! Not necessarily a bad thing.

I noticed the other day that there were US Civil War re-enactors in Australia. I guess they got bored re-enacting boring ol' convict landings. :P

Von, it is indeed very entertaining and an excellent read. You can even learn a little about the Civil War and Lost Causers from it.
That some reenactors are half a bubble off plumb isn't surprising. You can find that in people involved in every hobby/activity.
Best regards
Dennis

Yeah, and teachers are the worst. After all, "those who cannot do, teach!".

Very good book. Robert Lee Hodge is quite the character. I've never had any desire to do the re-enacting thing, but have several friends that do. They all take it pretty seriously and throw a good deal of money into it. Not my thing, but hey, who am I too judge?

I rented it as a book on tape for a trip..it was very good and made time pass quickly!!
The book had a lot to say between the lines on how we still struggle with the concepts of the Civil War in a very enjoyable way.

Hmmmm....rather general statement, there, JB. At a certain point in the US History course here at my HS, I'm teaching about what I used to do...
(but I get your meaning)

Confederates in the Attic is a very interesting book.
I am looking forward to reading Tony Horwitz new one "Midnight Rising: John Brown and the Raid That Sparked the Civil War"

I finished this book on holiday and really enjoyed it. What would be the best single volume to give a sprog wanting to learn a bit more about the ACW? I like personal accounts by them as were there as opposed to all that dreary grand strategy stuff!

Battle Cry of Freedom by James McPherson is, I believe, a hands down winner on that count Von.
By the way......where the hell you been bubba?!
Best regards,
Dennis

Been in Turkey for two week, had a great time. The volcanic area looks just like Apache country in the cowboy films, so there'll be some piccys soon, think I'll title it...
