The AMAGIRI was a Fubuki-class destroyer launched in 1930. She is famous for having rammed PT-109, then commanded by future President John F. Kennedy. The AMAGIRI was sunk herself on 23 April 1944 after hitting a mine.

On the 23rd of February 1942, the I-17 surfaced off the coast of Santa Barbara California and for 20 minutes shelled an oil storage facility. Although the shelling did little damage, it did spark an invasion scare which led to the "Battle of Los Angeles" the next night:
