You are either very naive or seriously misinformed. The West has been providing safe shelter for Russian dissidents and anti-Russian terrorists since times immemorial, trying to weaken Russia by supporting and sponsoring its dissenters.

I don't have the slightest doubt that he will be greeted with open arms and declared "yet another victim of the bloody inhuman baby-eating Putin's regime stifling all free speech in this horrible country". Britain has already provided political asylum for Zakayev, for example. Compared to him, this "lawyer" is a small potato anyway

C'mon our media and governments are not that bad.

Any demonizing of Putin & Medvedev is no where near the level of vicious rhetoric slung at Ahmadinejad, Kim Jong-Un, Mugabe and Bashar al-Assad.

You're dead wrong. Possibly you don't read all the articles in Western papers which defend Chechen terrorists but they get quite some notoriety in Russia for the obvious reasons. It's rather strange you're saying this: in the Crimean War the Britain and France with a number of petty tagalongs dumped their "Chistian rhetoric" to support the Islamic Caliphate against Russia - why would they act differently now?

Relations may not be all warm & fuzzy, but neither are our relations with China. America's biggest trading partner.

If we really hated you, we would be applying economic sanctions, and a great many of our politicians would be beating the war drums; a la Iran.

Yes their is the whole Missile-Poland affair, but these missiles are most likely meant to stop Iranian/Pakistani bomb threats than Russian threats.

In term of media coverage, Iran gets all of the (bad) press, Russia is rarely mentioned. At least with the papers I read anyways.

I'm was very young when the Chechen Wars took place and so can not remember how the West viewed them.

However from what I read on AGC, most Westerners (especially Americans)view the ongoing Chechen Islamist Insurgency in a very negative light. As they do with any Islamic political movement.
