War pics by Yevgeny Khaldei
From here : http://shinkareff.livejournal.com/318044.html
Yevgeny Khaldei - one of the most famous Soviet photographer, reporter, "Photochronicles TASS", representing the editor Tass in the Great Patriotic War. All the 1,418 days he and his "Leica" made the road from Murmansk to Berlin.
One of the most famous photographs of Y. Khaldei - hoisting the flag of the Victory over the Reichstag - everyone knows it. Photos of Yevgeny Khaldei were among the evidence at the Nuremberg trials, in particular, made in Sebastopol.
After the war photographer fell into disgrace, and despite the fact that after Stalin's death, he again gained access to the newspaper pages, until in 1970 he could not organize his photo exhibition in the USSR because of harassment by the Soviet leadership.
Today, the festival, "War and Peace", which takes place in Sevastopol at the Museum of Sheremetyev, people can once again see the unique images, printed from negatives of the author. Many of them are exhibited for the first time.

Another inspiration to stand alongside Robert Capa and Bert Hardy.
Sorry, but I'm a little curious.
Given the price of Leica cameras at the time, is it possible he actually used a FED (Soviet copy) in the earlier part of his career ?

Cause of "low educational level and lack of political literacy". Maybe it had something to do with the antisemetism.

Yes, the camera he used was a FED. His first camera, he made it itself.
There is more of his photos here :

Most excellent photos. Nice to see non propaganda photos taken by someone living there. That was more of an exception rather then the rule. Would also explain why he would be harassed by the KGB later on.
