What a mess in New Orleans!
First there was bountygate which is still in the process on being resolved. Now there are reports that the Saints gm had listening devices in the visitor locker rooms and he could listen in on rival coaching staffs.

I said it before, and I'll say it again. Cheats always get found out. But the Saints, they take the cake and the whole enchilada!

I'm pretty sure New Orleans is not the only team...they just happen to get caught.

If the Saints were taking unfair advantage by using said listening devices, why didn't they go undefeated? I believe IF the league investigates other teams they may also find bounty systems in several. Since they penalized the Saints by taking away their Second Round Draft, any penalty for other teams will be imposed next year!
If the Saints don't sign Drew Brees, they won't have to worry about stinking next year. That will hurt worse than anything the league has done!

Here I was thinking the Saints were trying to outscore everyone! The Saints Defense was not strong enough to stop everyone last year. If someone stopped their Offense, THAT was when they were in trouble!

You are correct, of course. The fact the Saints lost a few games last year completely negates any question of cheating. And because some other NFL team might, maybe, could have been involved in a bounty system, we shouldn't impose punishment on the poor little Saints because of outmoded and useless ethics.

Patriots. They cheated. They got caught. They got a slap on the wrist. Anyone remember that?

Jeff,
Come on now! Why bring logic into the argument? All Saints players should be scourged and made to haul the cross beam up to Calvary Hill.
In all seriousness, it would seem the Commissioner bent some rules and did not follow due process.

Oh, sorry. Sometimes I forget about that silly logic thing.
I always have an axe to grind against the Patriots. And the 'Aints. Two teams I have no respect for.

What rules did the Commissioner break? How did he not follow Due Process? I am not saying you are wrong but I am not update on how this investigation was run.

Maybe thou shalt not punish my team. I also want to comment on the comment about if the Saints were cheating/using listening devices why didn't they go undefeated.
Get real. Cheating gives an advantage. It does not guarantee an outcome. Saints fans will only have a beef if others in similar situations receive a lesser punishment.
They may wish to cite the Patriots videotaping event. I do not think the commish favored Belicheat and his team, but is using escalating punishments to deter misconduct.

Cody,
According to league rules the Commissioner is not supposed to get involved with player infractions. There is a special arbitrator or something. Also I have not seen any evidence of a hearing involving the Saints penalized where they could dispute the allegations made. Vilma may well have legal steps he can take. If the NFL had gone through that special arbitrator, there would have been a hearing and legal evidence presented, the key word is "legal". If there was clear and convincing evidence, the Commissioner should only have come in after the Special Arbitrator had ruled.

In an article by Brett Martel, AP, in today's Sports, several players spoke out on the issue. Jon Vilma has filed suit asking for documentation (including witness statements) and the names of witnesses. Scott Fujita also wants to hear the specifics of any allegation against him.
The NFLPA argues that Godell is prohibited from punishing any players for any aspect of the case occurring before the new collective bargaining agreement was signed. The player's union also argues that a Collective Bargaining Agreement system arbiter should hear the case as well as rule on appeals.
The players want to see what evidence (including videos) was used to reach Goodell's decision.
Maybe the Commissioner jumped the gun and did not hold a fair hearing? Who knows at this point?
