Myths about Lee's Surrender - An hour long program covering some of the most
interesting aspects from the books Thirty Myths about Lee's Surrender and More Myths about Lee's Surrender. An enlightening lecture telling what really
happened at Appomattox--separating myth from fact presented by Patrick Schroeder,
Historian of Appomattox Court House National Historical Park and graduate from the Stuarts Draft High School. A highly entertaining program that usually leads to a great question and answer secession. Some things that will be discussed are: Who first asked Lee to surrender? Details of the Apple Tree meeting. What became of the McLean House. Details of the stacking of arms ceremony. The battles of Appomattox Station and Appomattox Court House. Civilian casualties at Appomattox. The last casualty at
Appomattox. And much more. All are welcome to attend.

To ACG forum folks, I am starting a new Civil War book discussion group to meet on the first Saturday of the month starting in June (6/2/2012). The meetings will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Eisenhower Library at Harwood Heights, Illinois. The library is located at 4613 N. Oketo Ave. in Harwood Heights, IL. The first book to be discussed is One Continuous Fight by Eric Wittenberg, J. D. Petruzzi and Michael Nugent.

National Park Movie Premiere-Tickets Now Available

Join the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and the Friends of the Park for the world premiere of the new Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center film The Campaign for Chattanooga: Death Knell of the Confederacy.


The new 26 minute historical film is an excellent overview of the Campaign for Chattanooga, examines the city’s importance during the American Civil War, and details the struggle between North and South to control strategic Chattanooga .

The film will premiere at the Majestic Theater in downtown Chattanooga on Monday, October 29.

There will be two showings of the film 5:45 pm and 7:00 pm. The film premiere will mark the beginning of a year long commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War actions in Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia and is the only time that the film shows outside of the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center.

February 12-18, 2013 (Tuesday through Monday)-- Original Emancipation Proclamation on display at the Tennessee State Museum, Nashville, Tennessee; as part of the recognition of the 150th anniversary of the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation, the National Archives is touring the original document to selected venues. The only Southeast stop is the Tennessee State Museum. The Museum will be open extended hours while the Proclamation is there. Don Rigone will present a talk on the Vicksburg Campaign at the monthly meeting of the Greater Greensburg (PA) Civil War Roundtable on May 2. The GGCWRT meets at the Westmoreland County Bar Association. Social time begins at 6:00 pm with Mr Rigone beginning his presentation at 7:00 pm.
