Abandoning Camp Allegheny.
The month of April is the beginning of troop movement previous to Stonewall Jackson’s
Battle of McDowell with Milroy. Fremont was in Franklin, Va., and fearing being cut off from the Shenandoah Valley,
Allegheny Johnson moved his troops back to the top of the Shenandoah Mountain and set up a 2 mile loop of
earth works along the top of the mountain, called Fort Johnson.
If anyone has recent pictures of Camp Allegheny and would be willing to share them PM me.
Thanks,
Marshall
