There are more Jews in America than there are in Israel, never heard of any Pogroms here.

Now, Good things about Russia... I could list quite a few. It does not matter if I do it now, or started with it, I will still be accused of being disingenuous by the usual suspects.

I think the most important is this;
Many nations claim to be Europe's shield against waves of Barbarians pouring in from Asia. IMHO, Russia is the only nation that can claim the title with any Historic consistency. From the Huns to Timur the Lame, they have either absorbed the blows from the far east and suffered accordingly, or deflected them... and in either case, spared Europe much misery by taking it on themselves.
I'm not saying that they dd it out of altruism or even deliberately in most cases, but the results stand and the title is theirs if they want it.
And in the not very distant future, they will probably be called on to do so again. I believe that China will make it's move when things are at their worst, and given the current situation, things can get very bad very quickly.
If I were a European, I'd think long and hard about this.

And then there is this list, which I loved reading over;

Now that indicates considerable amount of class... if I can say that, maybe grace would be a better word?
Almost makes me wish I was still a traveling man, but that part of my life is over.

You brought up some of quotes about the Russians and made your conclusions about them based on these quotes.

Here are some quotes about the Jews. They were made on a timespan much greater and by much smarter people than those you quoted. And the author applied perfectly the same logical procedures to make up his opinion of Jews as you've done in regard to Russians.

Let me recommence - First: appropriate for this time of year; Paschka (sp?)
A Russian cheesecake dessert made, IIRC, with lots of cream cheese. I only made it once because it also required a muslin bag and a large flowerpot, neither of which are cooking utensils normally found in my kitchen. I remember it being very sweet and squishy.

Second anecdote: I remember this because I taped the show in question in the early 1980's, when the mighty (Sir) John Peel played a track by (I think) the Red Army Choir about "Krasnaya Streli" which had a chorus sounding something like "Vanya, Vanya, brook bayor, krasnaya streli". He commented afterwards "Well if the alternative is hours of Linda Ronstadt - I think it's in the balance, really."

Now, if you don't like Russians, you are perfectly free to start your own thread, but please don't derail this one (wow, I feel like a mod).
