It's the beginning of the process of shaping the battlefield.

Even thought the fighting has been going on for two hours, OPFOR is pre-set to enter the map in extended march order. It does not show on this screen shot but about 1-2 km farther north, the route opening detachment of the first MRR is moving west behind the existing infantry screen.

The OPFOR activity in the south is actually elements of two battalions with two missions. - Create a believable diversionary attack against the BlueFor southern flank in order to draw forces in that direction.
- A supporting attack to seize the warehouse complex vic 078034 and secure the southern flank of my main attack. At this point most of the Blue forces lined up on the road just to the West of the warehouse complex have not revealed themselves. When they do this turns into a rather protracted fight.

You'll see Red dropping lots of smoke here. I had planned to move one regiment along the northern high ground but I could tell by the volume of artillery fire that blue could see those units. Visibility was set to 4000 meters.
So I tried to keep certain areas smoked to prevent accurate blue artillery.

Having encountered BlueFor armor in the north I expected his infantry to be right behind it in woods between the airfield and the north map edge. Accordingly I started an artillery prep on that area as I prepared to push the first motor rifle company through it.
At this point the helicopters blue moved off the map earlier would have been key. The infantry strung out along the road east of the airfield could have been airlifted to cover either the northern or southern flank. Without them however it was too late for the dismounted force to react to the mechanized attacks bypassing it on either side.

At this point, all OPFOR units are finally on the map and getting into action. Managing this horde at the TacOps scale is a bit of a challenge and you will occasionally see a battalion 'reverse course' as I occasionally forget why I did something the previous week.
