I have spent the last night or two punching holes in my boat...

I have most of the drain holes along the upper hull drilled out (about 15 more to go) Next are the vents under the waterline. Some of these are going to be a real Btch as they are right next to the edge of the hull part (see red clouded areas in pics below). The blue clouded area I can not drill out as there are plastic parts that fit right behind them. The red arrows point out a long narrow drain slit down about 35% of the hull. If I drill this out I will need to add struts about 1/3" apart along it to match the u-boat construction. So I still have quite a bit of work to do on this half of the hull. I haven't even started the other half.

Wedi, where those one vents are near the torpedeo tubes, what about
gluing the tube walls in for stability and then drill the holes?
What are you drilling the holes with?

Actually it parts of the sorts for the tubes that will block the vent holes on the back side.

In the pic below, from the instructions, the red line is the edge of the tube structure that will glue to the u-boat's hull. The blue line is where the piece will fit against the hull on the inside and the dashed orange line is where the vent hole are located. As you can see the attachment point for the tube and tube doors glues along the length of the vent holes. Need to see if I can find pic of this area with the outer doors open.

Here is what I am using to drill out the holes. For the larger holes I use a battery powered dremel I have and for the smaller I have a hand pin-vice drill. I also have a collection of mini drill bits.

Well the Alabama is driving me nuts. I Am shooting for the Measure 12 modified scheme she undertook her shakedown cruise on. I know what colors she was SUPPOSED to be painted in, but the pics show something else. Which is driving my AMS crazy. Funny I have no problems with the errors in the Hase kit, but the paint stuff is making me twitch.

Been too busy with life to work on a model, thus the ship is still in drydock. Anybody else with an update?

I am trying to finish other kits on the workbench to literally make room to work on my Uboat. (see "The Production Line" thread!)

In these picture you can see where I had to cut off the gates and chains in the front and middle sections.

Here is the wood deck. I had to use the the trumpeter version rather than the Dragon, I still may combine the two kits and do a waterline version with the dragon kit.

Here are some pics of all the things that have to be cut off and replaced with pe because the wood deck will cover it.

I got extra pe rails so I could practice, this is on the dragon which will probably be my practice model. It is not perfect but it is a good start. I used a pencil and a paint brush that had a various of diameters to get the curves. These things are a bugger in 1/700!
