Palestinian Authority Dismisses Cabinet

JERUSALEM—The Palestinian Authority leadership in the West Bank has ordered the dismissal of its cabinet, a step to prepare for elections called in response to democratic uprisings sweeping the Arab world, senior officials said Sunday. The cabinet shake-up and Saturday's unexpected announcement of long-postponed elections came quickly after the resignation of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, the Palestinian Authority's strongest regional supporter, left its leaders appearing more vulnerable. Officials said the elections, for president and parliament, would be held despite the refusal of Hamas, the Islamist group that runs the Gaza Strip, to take part.

If we strongly believe in a true democracy and that in an election that is supposed to free and democratic, persons or parties should no be excluded in that democratic process.

If Hamas is excluded, the whole idea of free elections is a farce.

Hamas is not being excluded, they are refusing to participate.

That said, without Hamas being part of the upcoming elections, it will all be for naught after it's all said and done.
Hamas wields too much power and influence to be ignored.

News Analysis: Palestinian elections a thorny issue
English.news.cn 2011-02-15 05:39:13
By Adam Gonn

JERUSALEM, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Palestinians will head for the polls by September for presidential and legislative elections, according to an announcement by an aide to Palestinian National Authority (PNA) President Mahmoud Abbas.

Fatah member Yasser Abed Rabbo called on parties to put aside all of their differences and to focus on conducting the elections in September at the latest.
However, Hamas, who controls the Gaza Strip, has already rejected the idea and claimed that Abbas does not have the authority to decide when to hold elections, since his four-year term as president ended in 2009.
Some others questioned the decision to hold elections soon, saying that the Palestinians should wait until the United Nations recognizes them as a state.

If Abbas will alow Hamas to participate he can slit his own throat and spare them the trouble as they showed already in Gaza that they will not share power with anyone. Democratic process acording to HAMAS is to shoot oposition kneecaps and throw from the building roofs. Not that I clam that FATAH aren't corrupt thugs as well. BTW Will be elections organised in Gazastan too?

Oh boy this bloke got it wrong, the fact is that the Palestinians haven't shown the rest of the world they are fit to have a nation, not after the Fatah sponsored attacks on 5 settlers killing three children in the attack. Fatah, Hamas and the Palestinians can burn in hell.
