Strategic Counterinsurgency Playtesting
Hey everyone -
We had a big working session yesterday to get under the hood of the game engine we're using for the Strategic Counterinsurgency game at the Origins War College. I gotta tell you that it's a pretty neat concept, and I hope we get folks out there to give it a few run-thru's.
It's a project for the Nat'l Defense University, and they are going to use it this fall in a seminar for senior officers.
Players will play at either the federal or division level, and have to assign resources for different kids of development, as well as security assets (military, police, etc) to different kinds of missions. The feds also have different assets to commit, as well as some political tricks up their sleeves.
The OPFOR has the ability to disrupt development, terrorize the population, or try to fight the security forces head-to-head.
We're looking for a total group in each session of 10-20 or so. We can do it with fewer, would like to do it with more, and hope there's a good amount of participation. I'm running the 'game' component of it, and one of the NDU faculty will be facilitating the turn-to-turn discussion and allocation.
If you're an NSDM fan, this might be your cup of tea. If you're interested in COIN, same thing. If you want to see how a real, live, no-kidding, we're-going-to-use-this-to-help-train-the-military game/sim is being developed, you gotta be there
Please come lend a hand!
First session is Friday Morning 9-12, second session is Saturday Morning 9-12
Location is Origins War College "Third Room"
We expect to tweak things for Saturday based on Friday's session, so feel free to be there at both of them.
