Iran arrests Sunni militant leader
What goes around ...
February 23, 2010 3:49 a.m. EST
Quote:
Tehran, Iran (CNN) -- Iranian authorities have arrested the leader of a Sunni militant group blamed for dozens of attacks inside the country, state media said Tuesday.
Abdolmalek Rigi, who heads Jundallah (Soldiers of God), was taken into custody in eastern Iran while he was en route from the United Arab Emirates to Kyrgyzstan, Press TV reported.

Iran Air Force role in capturing Rigi
Rigi's passenger plane, (likely B-737, Kyrgyzstan Airlines QH 454, operated by Eastok Avia), enroute from Dubai (DXB / OMDB) to Bishkek-Manas (FRU / UAFM), with 113 passengers onboard, was forced to land at Bandar Abbas/TFB.9 (BND / OIKB) by two intercepting IRIAF F-4E Phantom II strike fighters of 91 TFS.
VEVAK commandos stormed the aircraft and apprehended Rigi. From Bandar Abbas/TFB.9, he was placed onboard an IRIAF Dassault Falcon (Mystere) 20E, flown to an undisclosed location (likely Mehrabad/TFB.1) and incarcerated.
Congratulations to VEVAK and the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force! They captured Iran's most wanted terrorist- the full equivalent of the United States capturing Osama bin Laden, should that ever be accomplished.

Mystery Surrounds Arrest Of Iran's Most Wanted Man
Quote:
There are conflicting accounts of Rigi's Feb. 23 arrest by Iranian authorities.
Iranian television claimed he was traveling on a commercial flight from Dubai to the Central Asian state of Kyrgyzstan to meet with a senior American official. The Iranian government says it forced the plane to land on Iranian territory.
Most analysts do not find this story credible. Instead, it is believed that Pakistan's intelligence service handed Rigi over to Iran. Rigi used Pakistan as a base to stage his attacks against Iran.

It's seems that in afgha, paki, iran all is done to cut heads that don't look nice in the garden no matter who they are.
Is it the big cleaning before a global agreement?

That's a distinct possibility. A power shift in Pakistan could result in a number of their unofficial 'guests' losing their political/military patronage. If a cross-border militant is no longer towing your line, or is working for your opposition, selling him out to whomever wants him is one way to shift the political situation in your favor.
RN asked in another thread if this might me the result of a new intell organization being activated within the Pakistani military as a counter-weight to the nearly ISI. That is a distinct possibility.

Once again the propoganda machine of the Iranian government has been shown to be inept. They can't even make up a good lie. Pakistan haneded the dude over in chains. But then, if they don't hire any better apologists than the one who wrote this I am not at all surprised.

They do not seem to be as bad as mark portrayed them to be. At least what in the article. They must have some other stuff they did that not in the article.
