Only about 1 in 10 people out there have any interest in WW2 or military history. About a tenth of those have become "educated" enough to really know what they are talking about, even in a limited sphere.
The Germans in WW2 were flashy bad-asses that tend to attract a lot of attention.
I think it's a BAD idea to go all snobbish on the newbies unless they really ask for it. Help them by presenting new facts and leading them to a more balanced view of things.
I know it's easier to be a bully than it is a teacher, but some of you guys might want to give it a try. Calling someone an idiot when they don't completely reverse their ideas based on one of your posts is not a great way to do anything but discourage the new enthusiasts and make them tune out and find a new hobby.

May I say that your response is a correct one .
However, Soren is not a new boy to forums and knew what he was/is doing.

The third time? Wow, really ? Do you want me to count the times I have asked you DIRECT questions in this thread and never gotten a single answer in return??
Yeah, that's right, don't throw rocks at others if you live in a glass house.
That having been said I'm not at all sure why you wanted me to post the last quote by Monty which he made after the war was over, that was not what we were talking about. He clearly states his concerns in his wartime messages, which is what we were talking about.
It is easy to be proud and appraising after a victory, but it is during the struggle itself that the true nature of the situation is reflected.

Soren you refered to this Monty letter in an earlier post.
You said it was an order from Monty and Churchill.
Surely you would wish to confirm there was such a letter and you were correct as to the content?

That's very true Nick. And some have been banned on other sites for what they know they have and are now doing . Robert

Yes I did, and what does the last quote in the linked site have to do with that? Did Monty write both letters after the war, is that what you're trying to convince everyone of now??
One letter is from during the war, the other is not.

Having very recently had the opportunity to call someone an idiot on this Forum I don't doubt that the comment was directed at me, may I add to that? I do not use words lightly and have no objection to anyone having a differant opinion to me on a subject and have often in the past apologized if proven wrong, in fair debate BUT if a persons general attitude and comments are idiotic (which they were) I say it as I find it and have no reluctance to call him an idiot!! I usually base the majority of my debates regarding WW2 on personal experience and memories so if my memories are differant to what has been published in book form I will dispute it, never the less quite willing to back down if obviously wrong (which is more than I can say for some.) Despite my outspoken ways,I am not in the habit of bullying! In respect for the ordinary German soldier, to call them 'Flashy bad/asses' is most definately an unfair description and I will tell you from MEMORY, they were on the whole,a tough and hard to beat enemy!

This is the letter and it is not post war:
On 25 June Monty wrote to Grigg as follows:
“It has come to my notice that reports are circulating about the value of British tanks etc. compared to the Germans. We cannot have anything of that sort at this time. We have got a good lodgement area; we have built up our strength and tomorrow we leap on the enemy. Anything that undermines confidence and morale must be stamped on ruthlessly.”
This is the letter that you claim was the 'Tiger Phobia' letter and the one you say was an 'order' and issued by both Churchill and Monty.
No Order, no Churchill and no Tiger mention.
The only other Monty letter is dated February 1945.
I can't see any post war letter.
Can you point it out to me?

Agreed, I was commenting on what gets some people interested in Military History, the younger ones in particular.
I need to stop being so subtle...

Be as subtle as you like,I am capable of recognising subtle and if that is you idea of being subtle you need to work on it a little!
