Secret bases in the Cold War

After Morocco kicked out the French in March 1956, Moroc became a "neutral", independent county in the Cold War. But the USAF had a SAC base at Sidi Slimane until 1962 and the USN had a air station at Kenitra and a communications station at Sidi Yahia until 1976. These bases did not officially exist. I was at Sidi Yahia 1963 - 1965. When we were off the base we had to wear civilian clothing. But everybody knew they were American bases. The gates at the two USN bases had both Moroccan soldiers and USMC guards at the gates. And you could see sailors and marines walking down the streets of Kenitra with their uniforms on coat hangers over their sholders. You could tell who were American servicemen by their hair cuts! I wonder how many other bases we had during the Cold War that did not exist!!!!
