It is only an article. Each knows that the "doom-watch" and the "sensationalism" constitute their business.

Indeed. It's why I referred to the book '1066 And All That' above. If the stories had any relationship to the real world society would have fallen apart over thirty-five years ago. In the age of the Information Superhighway there really is no excuse for believing this kind of drivel, unless it conforms to your prejudices of course in which case you're as stupid as the kids in the story, are a waste of oxygen and should be summarily shot at dawn.

Of course the "survey" is packed with comedy answers designed to generate headlines, but it's not all bad news.
More concerning is that the people behind the survey put as a 'correct' answer that Pearl Harbour was attacked using "suicide bombing by planes"

I'm glad to know that at least some of our youth know their history, but I'm watching the "Jeopardy" teen tournament and these are supposed to be smart kids, the elite, but all three contestants in a category "teen years" incorrectly answered, "WW I ended in Novemeber of this year." That's scary.

One in 20, meanwhile, said the Holocaust was a celebration at the end of the war.

That's not just a history problem. That a pretty basic vocabulary problem.

I don't think its all the kids' fault. There is a promo running this week on the History Channel(Australia) leading up to Remembrance Day promoting the movie "All quiet on the Western Front". The date shown is October 11 1918. Considering that we are now in November, I would have thought one of their staff members would have realised by now.
I have emailed them about this. It will be interesting to see what their response will be, and if it will be noted and acted upon in time.

Part of trusting any part of this is knowing if the survey was taken in private or in a group. Kids will go for the funny answer in an attempt to be cool or some will deliberately make mistakes to keep from seeming "too smart" and getting a negative rap for that. Which is kinda confusing for when I grew up it was the dummies who got the bad rap instead of the smart kids.

Yep, they're not called 'the gutter press' for nothing.

But if they had been taught the historical facts, that surely would also have solved the vocabulary problem?
