Precisely. And even before Canada joined, Australia and IIRC also New Zealand did also. So both hemispheres were represented, as well as both sides of the Atlantic. China and Japan were already at war prior to all of this, and the Japanese would throw in their hand against the USA and Britain before long, so from 1939 all the ingredients for the World war were in the pudding bowl, and beginning to be mixed.

We are probably thinking of different kinds of "ready". You would seem to be thinking of ready for eating. I was thinking more of ready for the oven. Perhaps my choice of analogy was not very good here.
