Why should defenders of democracy have volonteered to join Soviet communist party and even volonteered to work in punative political police KGB, analogy of Gestapo?

The service in the Soviet army was compulsory. Joining Communist party and KGB was the matter of personal choice, desire and implied volantarily assuming responsibility to defend communism and the Soviet system. Eastern communist leaders were not traitors. They were the puppets of Moscow whose authority was maintained by the Soviet presence. As soon as the Soviets failed to support them, their regimes were overthrown by their own peoples.

Ah you think in that way! I speak of the present leaders, no body there that was member of the CP? Everybody there ditched military service?
And in that fashion they would still be traitors, not to the SU but to their own people.

It is people btw.

Ah thank you for that. Never heard that word before. But I don´t think it fits Putin, maybe some of his "lackeys".

Putin's biography is well-known. He is a typical bureaucratic time-server and opportunist.

Actually there are very few of them among the Eastern European leaders. However, nearly all the governments of the Ex-Soviet republics are made up of fromer communist activists and bureaucratic time-servers.

A leader that doesn´t adjust his rule after the times is a bad leader. I doubt that Putin is trying to

You are unrealistic if you think that Putin has been a sort of independent, patriotic, honest self-made man of virtues who made his career from a bureaucrat of Saint Petersburg Mayor's Office (where he became notorious for involvement in corruption scandals) to the central government on his own under Yeltsin times.

If you want to become a fun of some politician, choose among Swedish ones. Perhaps they don't promise to massacre anyone in toilets like Putin, but Sweden has always been much more progressive country than Russia.

Ah you mean in that fashion. Well then he might have been a time-server.
What scandals? I have not heard about any corruption scandals?

As likely as you would wear a United Russia T-shirt.

They are all very lame, we should have somebody like Kruchev.

But that is a for a other thread, not sure if I should speak about it anyway. SÄPO is listening.

Your characteristic of KGB is childish and hysterical. Border guards always were part of KGB, and governmental communication service; another important function was defending classified information, supervising classified records keeping in organizations; of course intelligence and counterintelligence; counteracting corruption, analytical work on different aspects of life in USSR and other countries. Curing Lera Novodvorskaya was not so important task to create special organization. Putin was not in 9th department, absolutely not daddy Mueller, he has rank of colonel only, while George Bush-elder was CIA chief, and in Russia nobody screamed about him being bloodthirsty butcher.
BTW, why invent word timeserver, while there exist quite accurate words careerist, opportunist, sycophant, bootlicker?
PS: infidel must not use name of holy man in vain

Chechens or Ossetians are much better warriors, they are men with gonads, but Chechens in that war were on Ossetian side. For Georgians is utmost stupidity to make them enemies. Or it was not them, but their trotskist president, who can flee to US any time.
