Similar posts existed out West in Michigan, Minnesota and the Plains States.

The 26th Infantry Regiment was stationed there.

Other such posts included Fort Ethan Allen near Essex Junction, VT which contained a squadron of 16th Cavalry Regiment, and the 7th Field Artillery Regiment; Madison Barracks, near Watertown at Sacketts Harbor, which had the 1st Bn, 5th Field Artillery, and the 2nd Bn, 25th Field Artillery, and farther west Fort Niagara near Buffalo, which had another Infantry Regiment

Don't forget Fort Ontario at Oswego NY. An active military instalation from the 18th century until after WW II. You may remember Jewish refugees were quartered there for awhile after the war.
