Farnborough International 2004A J Summersgill October 22, 2004 | 0 comments | Print | E-mail Here’s her more famous cousin – a Spitfire. Both planes together. This is an American P-51 Mustang. And here’s a close-up of a proper Eurofighter Typhoon4. All of these planes, from the Nimrod to the Typhoon were grouped together to celebrate the centenary of the Rolls-Royce company. Around the corner, and here is a Hawk Trainer Jet, bedecked in company colours for BAE Systems. And a Russian Hind Helicopter (not sure why it was also in company colours though). This is a mock-up of a SAAB Gripen single-engined fighter. There was a queue for this one as it was actually possible to board this plane and pose for pictures. And finally for this section, some unmanned reconnaissance vehicles – including this rotary winged one operated by the US Navy. This is known as the X-47 or “J-UCAS”. J-UCAS stands for Joint Unmanned Combat Air Systems – it’s essentially an unmanned Stealth plane that is capable of carrying a 4,500lb payload.
