Farnborough International 2004A J Summersgill October 22, 2004 | 0 comments | Print | E-mail OTHER ATTRACTIONS Before we get to the Static Displays and the flying planes, there were lots of other attractions for anyone looking for a good family day out. There were children’s rides and games, and plenty of food available throughout the public areas of the Airfield. There were Flight Simulators such as this one for the new Eurofighter (named Typhoon by the RAF). And this one that placed you “aboard” one of the RAF Red Arrows flight display team. Of these two, I’d plump for the Typhoon – much smoother ride! Then there was this model, which had either a trip on board the Space Shuttle or a Harrier Jump-Jet. I chickened out, having been buffeted enough for one morning. There were also places to buy books, toys or other memorabilia scattered around the site. And I found this cutaway of one of the famous “Merlin” engines. Made by Rolls-Royce, this was the engine that powered the Spitfire, Hurricane, Mustang and Lancaster Bomber in World War II.
