Farewell to Two Legendary Marines – Gen. R. H. Barrow and Col. J. W. Ripley

Marines around the world are mourning the deaths of two of the Marine Corps’ most legendary figures, Gen. Robert H. Barrow and Col. John W. Ripley.

Barrow, the 27th commandant of the Marine Corps, and veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam passed away October 30, 2008, in St. Francisville, La at age 86.

Col. John W. Ripley, USMC.

Ripley, known for his exploits at Dong Ha bridge during the Vietnam War’s Easter Offensive, passed away November 1, 2008, in Annapolis, Md., at age 69.
