Famed ‘Victory or Death’ Letter Returns to the Alamo

By Media Release

The famed “victory or death” letter written by William Barret Travis will return to the Alamo for the first time since 1836—but it will only be there a week. See the media release below that we received from the folks at Texas tourism. Click here to read the contents of Travis’ letter from the Alamo “To the People of Texas and All  Americans in the World.”

We ran a Hard Choices article in our September 2010 issue of Armchair General magazine “The Decision to Defend the Alamo, 1836” examining Travis’ situation and the decisions he made.

This is the media release we received at ACG:

The famed “victory or death” letter written by William Barret Travis will return to the Alamo next month for the first time since 1836. When the brash, 26-year-old commander of the Alamo wrote his plea for help on February 24, 1836, he was clear about his chances for surviving the siege by Mexican troops under Santa Anna. But Col. William Barret Travis knew the power of his words, and chose them carefully to craft a message that transformed the Texas Revolution into an American fight against tyranny.

The letter is considered a Texas treasure and one of the most stirring battleground letters in American history. Now, for the first time since it was written, the iconic “Victory or Death” letter is returning to the Alamo for a once-in-a-lifetime free exhibit between February 23-March 7, 2013. More information about the exhibit can be found at www.TravisLetter.com

irked whilst folks think about issues that they just
do not understand about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the highest and also outlined out the
whole thing with no need side-effects , folks could take a
signal. Will probably be again to get more. Thank you
