Duxford Delights

Duxford also is home to a large collection of land warfare equipment, and once a year holds a Military Vehicle event. Many collectors bring their vehicles to display and a selection of the museums running examples are put through their paces in the arena adjacent to the Land Warfare Hall. The museum, not surprisingly, has a varied collection, including a number of Cold War and WW2 Russian vehicles.

Whatever your inclination, Duxford is a museum not to be missed. 2007 is a particularly important year with the opening of Airspace, and the Falklands War Commemorations. Another ‘special’ is the 2-hour airshow for the ‘Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Day’ on Saturday the 5th of May (this is the public launch of the BBMF’s 50th anniversary season and the whole of the Flight – air crew, ground crew, all the aircraft and support staff – will decamp down to Duxford for an up close and personal day). A similar USAF event is to be staged in July (no details available at the time of writing). The Legends Show will no doubt better all those that have gone before, and if luck is on the enthusiasts’ side there may be an appearance of Vulcan XH558 (in her first year back in the air) at one of the later shows. So get yourself along…!
