D-Day Maps

I saw your site while surfing the net. I go to Normandy just about every June for the D-Day Anniversary. My 3 uncles were with the 29th Division from D-Day to VE-Day. Only one of them is still alive. Harry Green just turned 90 in January. He gave me his map he carried on Omaha Beach on D-Day, many years ago. I would find myself returning to Normandy many times and collecting D-Day maps of the 29th Divisions, 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions and Rangers.

Dear Mr. Roop,

Thanks very much for your email to Armchair General and for sharing the story of your uncles’ service and the D-Day map. The 29th Division, which landed along with the 1st Infantry Division and Ranger units, at Omaha Beach does not get the credit that it deserves for its heroic assault. The exploits of men like your uncles should be better known.

Hi Tim,
We owe so much to your uncles who stormed the Normandy Beach many years ago . I visited all the beach landing areas and would like to return. I’m looking forward to viewing your uncle’s map published in Armchair General magazine.
