Clint Eastwood to Direct Iwo Jima Movies Published Tuesday, October 18, 2005 | There is an interesting article at Time Magazine, which outlines the latest projects of director Clint Eastwood. He is doing two movies set around the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. The first, Flags of Our Fathers, is centered around the six Marines who raised the flag on Mount Suribachi. It covers a great deal of the battle itself, tracking the six men as they fought and died there. It then tracks the survivors of the flag raising as they are whisked away to the US for their famous war bonds tour. Conversely, Lamps Before the Wind is set during the same battle, but shows things from the Japanese perspective. In a battle where almost all Japanese soldiers died, we can surmise this will be a tragic and gritty movie. Get the full story here.
