Another impressive campsite was this German HQ and signals outfit I discovered tucked inside the woods.

And the really cool thing was – despite all the visitors milling around their camp, the HQ "staff" continued with their tasks like nothing was happening…

Maps are laid out for the Officers’ perusal, and on a bench, signals equipment bleeps out Morse code, next to an ever-present ENIGMA device.

Around the corner, members of a unit recreating the SS Grossdeutschland Division man their own camp, complete with mortar emplacements. The chap in the left hand photo was so still I thought he was some kind of mannequin at first, until he blinked…
