Beltring War and Peace Show, 2005A J Summersgill | August 28, 2005 | 0 comments | Print | E-mail I can never resist models, and it seems neither can anyone else, because one large tent was set aside for displays of models and dioramas of all kinds, and it also had kits for sale. Here’s a very impressive diorama presumably used for wargaming. The picture on the right shows one chap who seems to collect bullets of every calibre. I have no idea why… Outside, some large model Tanks were being driven around, complete with fully operational suspension, turret and even smoke from the engines. One even had the Tank Commander smoking a cigar - and that had smoke coming from it too. With the addition of genuine sound samples from the engines of the real machines, these were impressive models. And then I saw Chitty Chittty Bang Bang driving around. Not really a military machine, although I would imagine that a vehicle capable of land sea and air transportation would be quite handy in an invasion scenario. The addition of Dick Van Dyke doing a dodgy Cockney accent may even confuse the enemy… And here’s the ACG stand! Pretty small, but cosy and of course the staff were uniformly excellent (!). Here I am in the picture on the right with Seimon Pugh-Jones, ACG’s Staff Photographer. I manned the stand during the afternoon and gave away a number of free issues, generating a lot of interest in the publication as a result.
